SpicyChat is an 18+ AI character chat site with a large library of user-made chatbots. There is a free tier with ads and a small memory, and three paid tiers from $5.95 a month after a price rise on Sep 8, 2026. This is a test drive: I read the official docs and terms on Oct 25, 2026, and did not pay for anything.

What it is

SpicyChat is an adult AI character chat platform. You pick from chatbots other users have created, or build your own, and it adds tools for group chats and lorebooks (background notes a character can draw on).

The company is NextDay AI Incorporated, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with subsidiaries NextDay AI USA Inc (Delaware) and NextDay AI EU Ltd (Cyprus), according to the official terms.

Platforms are a little unusual. The official docs say:

  • Web: yes
  • Android: an APK downloaded from SpicyChat’s own site, not Google Play
  • iOS: no current native app; the old one is no longer updated, and you can add the website to your home screen instead

Free plan

The free tier exists. Per the official docs on tokens and context, as checked on Oct 25, 2026:

  • Up to 4,096 tokens of context (how much of the chat the bot can hold in memory)
  • Replies up to 180 tokens, which means fairly short answers
  • Ads stay on until you pay for the first tier

Message limits and queue rules for free users are not stated in the official docs.

Prices

SpicyChat raised prices on Sep 8, 2026. According to the official pricing update FAQ, existing recurring subscribers keep their old price while the subscription stays active and unchanged.

PlanMonthlyYearlyWhat you get
Free$0n/a4,096 token context, 180-token replies, ads

Source: official SpicyChat pricing update FAQ and premium features docs, as listed on Oct 25, 2026. Get A Taste is listed at the same figures in USD and EUR. UK prices are £4.95/£50.00, £16.95/£169.95 and £25.95/£259.95 for the three tiers.

There is no separate credit system in the official docs. Limits are set by context and reply length per tier.

Payment methods, per the official support page: Visa, MasterCard, Discover and Amex on the website; Pay By Bank (one-time, no auto-renew); Boosty; and crypto through CoinPayments, which is linked manually.

Features

From the official docs, as checked on Oct 25, 2026:

  • Character chats and chatbot creation
  • Group chat, lorebooks and director mode
  • Character import
  • Memory Manager and Semantic Memory 2.0 (paid tiers)
  • Conversation Images and text-to-speech (paid tiers)

Most of the memory features sit behind the paywall. On the free tier you are working with 4,096 tokens, which a long roleplay can use up quickly.

Privacy and safety

Age checks. The community guidelines say you must be at least 18. I found no official page describing an age-verification process. Third-party sites report one, but that is not confirmed by SpicyChat itself.

Chat data. This is the part worth reading slowly. The terms grant SpicyChat a perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable licence to use chatbots, chats and generations. They also state that operators may read messages sent to the service, while employee access to chats is restricted by internal policy. The privacy policy says personal data is used to provide and improve the service. Whether chats are used to train models is not explicitly stated.

Deletion. You can request deletion of personal data and chat history, subject to legal retention. Information can be deleted in account settings or by contacting support. Deleted accounts cannot be restored.

Content rules. The terms prohibit real photos or AI portraits resembling actual people (public or private), deepfakes and composites, and sexual depictions of real identifiable persons. Bots based on real private or lesser-known people are not allowed. Public figures may inspire bots unless they have said they do not want to be sexualized.

What users complain about

SpicyChat had a Trustpilot rating of 2.0/5 from 62 reviews at the time of checking, a modest sample. Themes reviewers mention:

  • The free tier feels restrictive, and memory limits cut off earlier parts of chats
  • Automated moderation with no clear route to a human, and unhelpful support
  • Long queues, slow responses and login errors
  • Some object to facial-scan or account-linked age checks
  • Repetitive replies, characters drifting from their traits, and bots speaking for the user

Reddit complaints were not collected.

My take

On paper, SpicyChat has a cheap entry tier and a big character library, and its rules on real people and deepfakes are clear. It might suit you if you want a browser-based character chat and are fine on the web or an Android APK.

What to watch: the free tier is small, the useful memory features start at $19.95 a month after the September price rise, and the terms give SpicyChat a broad licence over your chats. If you plan to stay long-term, the annual prices are lower per month, but check the terms first.
