Kindroid is an 18+ AI companion app where you build one character, a “Kin”, and chat by text, voice or video call. There is no ongoing free plan, only a one-time preview, and the Standard subscription starts at $15.99 a month on the US App Store. This is a test drive: I read the official docs and App Store listing on Oct 25, 2026, and did not pay for anything.

What it is

Kindroid is a subscription companion app. You create a Kin with a chosen personality, backstory, appearance and voice, then talk to it by text, voice call or video call.

The company is Beautifully Incorporated, with an address in Los Angeles, California; its terms reference Delaware law. Kindroid runs on the web, iOS and Android, according to its homepage.

Free plan

There is no ongoing free plan. Per the official subscriptions docs on Oct 25, 2026, new accounts get a one-time preview:

The add-ons stack. Ultra requires Standard, and MAX requires both, so the top setup is all three combined. The docs also say Ultra access requires significant chat and call history.

Extras on the US App Store (Oct 25, 2026): 500k audio credits for $14.99; selfie credits at 50 for $6.99 or 100 for $11.49; extra Kindroid slots at 1 for $3.49 or 4 for $11.49.

Payment. On the web: major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Amazon Pay, Cash App and others; prepaid cards work via PayPal, gift cards do not. In the apps, billing goes through the App Store or Google Play. Refunds are case-by-case and sales are generally final. The docs warn that chargebacks may lead to a permanent ban.

Privacy and safety

Age checks. Kindroid is 18+ (or the local age of majority). Paid users are verified automatically through billing. Free users may be flagged by behavioral age estimation and then asked to verify by Yoti selfie age estimation (you pass at 21+) or a government ID. Kindroid says it receives only a pass or fail result.

Chat data. Chats are encrypted at rest and in transit, but not end-to-end. Support cannot browse chats. Authorized staff may review excerpts flagged by automated safety systems, at your request, or when legally required. Aggregated, de-identified data may be used to build and improve the services. Whether chats are used for model training is not explicitly stated.

Deletion. Deleting a message is immediate. Deleting a Kindroid or your account takes effect 24 hours after the request. Kindroid keeps limited account records to prevent ban evasion.

Content rules. You may not use a person’s name, likeness or persona without permission, apart from contexts like commentary or non-commercial parody. Intimate images of a real person without consent are not allowed, including AI-generated or altered images of a real identifiable person.

What users complain about

Kindroid had a Trustpilot rating of 2.6/5 from only 20 reviews at the time of checking, which is too small to say much. Themes reviewers mention:

Unfair charges, missing purchased credits and denied refunds
Account restrictions without a usable appeal, and content rules that feel arbitrary
Repetitive replies and characters losing track of the story
Crashes, outages, voice bugs and group chat bugs

Reddit complaints were not collected.

My take

On paper, Kindroid is built for one long-running companion rather than browsing many characters. Its privacy documentation is fairly detailed, and the 30-day data export is a plus. It might suit you if you want voice and video calls and plan to pay for at least Standard.

What to watch: there is no free plan to fall back on, the 3-day trial auto-converts, the memory add-ons stack to $113.97 a month on the App Store for Standard monthly plus Ultra plus MAX, and refunds are case-by-case. If you sign up, use the preview first and put a reminder in your calendar before any trial ends.
